As a Principal Power Electronics Specialist, you will play a crucial role in designing and optimizing power supply systems with digital control.

Here you provide impetus throughout the entire development process, from the specification, topology decision, magnetic design, development of the series type and support right through to series production.

Your deep knowledge of switch mode power electronics  (SMPS) and control theory will be essential in creating innovative solutions for diverse applications.

Although firmware design is not required, a strong grasp of control theory is highly beneficial.

This role is particularly suited to individuals who take pleasure in sharing their expertise, with a passion for teaching and a natural inclination toward mentorship.

Moreover, there is potential for this position to evolve into a technical team management role, either through the establishment of new centers in Ireland or as part of a succession plan.
 

Your Key Responsibilities: 

  • Innovation: Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in power electronics, bringing forward innovative ideas to improve product performance and features.
  • Power Supply Design: Lead the creation and development of advanced digitally controlled power supply systems tailored to meet specific customer needs and industry standards.
  • Component Selection: Identify and select essential components, such as semiconductors, transformers, and capacitors, to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Control Theory Application: Utilize your expertise in control theory to implement and refine control algorithms, ensuring stable and accurate operation of power supply systems.
  • Efficiency Optimization: Focus on enhancing power conversion efficiency and minimizing losses to deliver energy-efficient solutions.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Address EMC requirements to ensure compliance with electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility standards.
  • Safety Certification: Ensure power supply designs comply with relevant safety regulations and work towards obtaining necessary certifications.
  • Design-for-Manufacturing (DfM): Collaborate with manufacturing teams to develop products optimized for efficient and cost-effective production processes.
  • Design-to-Cost (DtC): Work towards meeting cost targets without compromising on quality and performance standards.
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA): Perform FMEA to identify potential failure modes and implement strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical challenges during design and testing phases

 

Your Qualifications to lead this role successfully

  • Master degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Bachelor accepted if the strong knowledge in Power Electronics, Maths and Physics.
  • Extensive experience in power electronics and power supply design
  • Preferably with experience in isolated converter development
  • Small signal analog electronics
  • Strong understanding of control theory and its application in power electronics.
  • Electronic laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in power supply design.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, SIMETRIX, FEMM).
